Sonenthal and Overall, P.C. serves as counsel to nonprofit tax-exempt charitable organizations with domestic and international programs in a wide variety of sectors, including health-related social marketing activities, biodiversity and the environment, democratic governance, public broadcasting, international education and training, and conflict prevention and resolution.  S&O is also counsel to several renewable energy trade associations.  The services provided by our firm cover the full range of legal issues encountered by these organizations, including corporate formation, corporate governance, employment, government and commercial contracting, procurement, administrative compliance with federal rules, lobbying disclosure, foreign corrupt practices, export and foreign assets controls, antitrust and trade regulation, intellectual property and insurance.
Some of examples of our work as counsel to non-profits are as follows;

  • S&O acts as General Counsel to a non-profit charitable organization whose mission is to strengthen the independent news media, and other academic, public and non-governmental institutions in the countries of Eastern Europe, the New Independent States, Asia and the Near East. Our client’s programs, funded by USAID, the U.S. Department of State and private foundations, contribute to the professional development of journalists, business leaders, students, scholars, policy-makers and other professionals. Our client also makes the knowledge and skills developed through its programs available to U.S. universities, foundations, policymakers, and the corporate sector.
  • Five renewable energy trade associations have designated S&O as their general counsel. S&O provides legal advice to each of these associations on matters of corporate governance, government contracts and grants, antitrust and lobbying disclosure.
